The Garden Club of America was founded in Philadelphia in 1913 by twelve established garden clubs from seven states. Today, there are 200 member clubs throughout the United States. They are divided into 12 zones. The purpose of The Garden Club of America is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of the association through educational meetings, conferences, correspondence, and publications, and to restore, improve, and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

Following and broadening these aims, The Garden Club of America (GCA) has won national respect and recognition. It has made valuable contributions in horticulture, conservation, preservation, civic planning, and planting, working continually to spread general education in these fields. Educational forums, fellowships, courses in colleges, and nature camps have earned a federal tax exemption.

A BULLETIN containing articles, reports, book reviews, a bulletin board, and pictures by members has been printed since 1913. Memberships bring to a club, information on a national and worldwide scale, the privilege of attending GCA meetings, lectures and forums, programming advice and slides, and the right to exhibit in flower and horticulture shows where standards are high.
