Proposing New Members

We are happy to welcome new members to the Lenox Garden Club who will both enjoy the club and participate in its activities. A proposer, who is enthusiastic about the candidate and the club will want to provide the Membership Committee with a comprehensive picture of the candidate’s qualifications.

Application Process Requirements

Proposers and Seconders help assure the Membership Committee that the Candidate will both enjoy and add to the spirit and community of the Club.

A letter proposing the candidate and a minimum of two seconding letters should be submitted to the Chair of the Membership Committee no later than March 1st of each year and should include the following:

  • How long you have known the candidate
  • How long the candidate has lived in the area
  • Does the candidate have any other garden club affiliations
  • Describe the candidate’s gardening interests:
    • Home gardening
    • Horticulture
    • Conservation
    • Education
    • Garden Design
    • Flower arranging
    • Other
  • Will the candidate commit to and volunteer time and talents to contribute to our projects?
  • Do you know of any special talents the candidate could contribute to our club?

Responsibilities of the Proposer

  • Arrange for the candidate to meet the members of the Membership Committee.
  • Make sure the candidate is made aware of the responsibilities of a first-year member, especially the expectation that a first-year member should attend at least 5 meetings per year (which would include workshops) and participate in major Club projects.

The Proposer’s Role in Welcoming New Members

During the candidate’s first year, the proposer should, with the assistance of the Membership Chair, help integrate her candidate into the club:

  • Introduce her to new members
  • Offer to pick her up to go to the monthly meetings
  • Make sure she is aware of the policies
